How to Renew MS Office 365

Need to know how to renew MS Office 365? This independent guide explains how to renew your Office 365 (Microsoft 365) subscription, reactivate an expired plan and manage auto-renewal. Not affiliated with Microsoft.

To renew Microsoft 365 Personal or Family, sign in at account.microsoft.com/services and turn on recurring billing, or click Renew. For a product key, redeem it at microsoft365.com/setup. Business admins renew from the Microsoft 365 admin centre at admin.microsoft.com under Billing → Your products. If your plan has already expired, you can reactivate it from the same pages.

Renew a Personal or Family plan

Microsoft 365 Personal and Microsoft 365 Family subscriptions renew automatically if recurring billing is on. If you turned it off, follow these steps to renew manually.

1

Sign in to your Microsoft account

Go to account.microsoft.com/services and sign in with the email linked to your subscription.

2

Find your Microsoft 365 subscription

Under 'Services & subscriptions', locate your Microsoft 365 Personal or Family plan.

3

Turn on recurring billing or click Renew

If recurring billing is off, click 'Manage' then 'Turn on recurring billing'. If the plan has already expired, a 'Renew' button appears instead.

4

Confirm payment and complete renewal

Verify your payment method is up to date, then confirm the renewal. You will receive a confirmation email from Microsoft.

Tip: Recurring billing is the easiest way to ensure uninterrupted access. You can turn it on or off at any time from account.microsoft.com/services.

Renew with a product key

If you purchased a renewal product key from a retailer (Amazon, Currys, Costco, or similar), redeem it to extend your subscription.

1

Go to microsoft365.com/setup

Open microsoft365.com/setup in your browser and sign in with your Microsoft account.

2

Enter your product key

Type or paste the 25-character product key from your card or email. Click 'Next'.

3

Confirm and apply

Follow the on-screen steps to apply the key to your account. The subscription period is extended immediately.

Renew a Business plan

Microsoft 365 Business subscriptions are managed by an administrator through the Microsoft 365 admin centre.

1

Sign in to the admin centre

Go to admin.microsoft.com and sign in with your admin account.

2

Go to Billing → Your products

In the left navigation, click 'Billing', then 'Your products'. Find the subscription you want to renew.

3

Turn on recurring billing or renew

Click the subscription name. Under 'Subscription settings', turn on 'Recurring billing'. If the plan has expired, a 'Reactivate' option appears.

4

Update payment method if needed

Go to Billing → Payment methods to add or update a card before renewing.

Reactivate an expired plan

If your Microsoft 365 subscription has already expired, you have a grace period to reactivate it without losing your data. For personal plans, sign in at account.microsoft.com/services — a 'Reactivate' or 'Renew' button appears next to the expired subscription. For business plans, go to admin.microsoft.com → Billing → Your products and click 'Reactivate'. Microsoft typically holds your data for 30 days after expiry for personal plans and up to 90 days for business plans, after which it may be permanently deleted.
